Renters
Renters insurance — fast, cheap, lease-compliant
Renters insurance from Binsurance is an Allstate tenant policy starting around $12/month that covers your personal property, your liability inside the apartment, and your additional living expenses if the unit becomes uninhabitable. We issue same-day certificates of insurance to your landlord.
What's included
- Personal property: theft, fire, vandalism, water damage from plumbing, etc.
- Liability: someone hurt in your unit, your dog bites a neighbor, you flood the unit below
- Loss of use: hotel, meals, laundry if you can't live there during a covered loss
- Medical payments to others: $1K–$5K of no-fault coverage for minor guest injuries
What renters insurance does NOT cover
- Flood from outside the building (need a separate NFIP policy)
- Earthquakes
- Roommate's belongings if they're on a separate lease
- Damage to the building itself (that's the landlord's policy)
Frequently asked questions
How much does renters insurance cost? +
In PA, NJ, and DE typical renters policies start around $12–$20/month for $30K of personal property and $100K of liability. Bundling with an Allstate auto policy usually drops it further.
Does my landlord's insurance cover my stuff? +
No. Your landlord's policy covers the building; it does NOT cover your laptop, furniture, clothes, or liability if a guest gets hurt in your unit. That's what renters insurance is for.
Is renters insurance required by my lease? +
Increasingly yes. Most newer apartment buildings in Philadelphia, Trenton, and Wilmington require proof of renters insurance before move-in. We can issue a certificate of insurance directly to your property manager.
Are roommates covered on one policy? +
Generally no — each adult on a different lease needs their own policy. Married couples and domestic partners are typically covered on one policy.
